You're Beautiful (and the viikii lament)

So so so so so so so CUTE! Oh I loved this show. It did everything right. I laughed, I cried, I got angry, and I worried myself sick! The characters are adorable, especially the 3 hotties of A.N.JELL. Glad I didn't have to pick one of them. In my fantasy harem I will take all three.

Elements of You're Beautiful that I liked -

The sweet heroine who is cute without over doing it. I don't usually like the naive, stupid girls, but for some reason Go Mi Nyu was great. Maybe it was just the situation she was in. Naive or not, pretending to be a boy has got to be tough.

The Pig-Rabbit!

The naked cherub babies!

Tae Kyung's facial expressions. From sour limes to angelic smiles to stubborn smirks, that kid pulls it all off!

Shin Woo! Swoon!

JEREMY!!! Love love love him!

The music! Awesome stuff.

So, officially 10/10! This is another one I will be looking to own.

BUT VIIKII!!!

Viikki no likey me. I just can't watch shows there anymore. Ugh! And that is all I have to say about that.

Lunch Queen

I passed this drama by so many times, but I finally decided to watch it. This is another Japanese Drama, like Long Love Letter. In fact, 2 of the characters are in both. I could tell right away! But don't get me wrong. They play their characters very well in both shows.

I loved this show. The heroine was my kind of girl. Someone who understood suffering, but also found her own happiness and shared it. Throw in a reverse harem that was as fond of her as I was, and we have for funny, touching, beautiful drama.
The guys were all cute and quirky with their individual personalities!
Once again, I got hungry everytime I watched the show. Someday I have to try that omurice!

8/10 officially!

Long Love Letter - The Drifting Classroom

First let me tell you that I watched this drama 12 hours straight. I've only ever done that once before with a drama called The Devil Beside You. My only excuse, this show completely enthralled me.

It's Japanese, taking place in a high school in Yokohama. Basically, and the official summaries tell the story differently, a space time anomaly warps the school, just the school, into the future. This happens Jan. 7th, 2002 at exactly 11:15 am. Its a day before the school officially opens for the new year, so only a few students and faculty are there.
The future world all around them is a wasteland of sand. The only things they have to survive with are what can be found in the school, the only food, the only water.

So, that is the Human Drama, Sci Fi aspect of the show. The characters are very real, with a variety of personalities and pains. The acting is believable, sucking you into the story of their struggle and hopes. I became very emotionally evolved.

Now, don't get me wrong. The show has its flaws. It isn't perfect, fancy effectwise, or completely believable, but I really liked it.

The best part is, of course, the romance element which I have obviously waited to comment on last. Yuka is a former teacher at the school, who resigned because of an incident involving a fight with a student. Now she works at her parent's flower shop. A year before, she runs into Akio and they totally hit it off, but that night Akio's cell phone is stolen. He can't remember her number and thus loses the ability to contact her.

He finally runs into her again a year later, and now he is the math teacher at the high school. They have a few encounters, good and bad, before Jan. 7th. Then, that day, she is at the school trying to get payment from a female teacher for a flower delivery. Before she leaves for an important appointment, she pauses to talk with Akio at the entrance to the school. Therefore, she just barely happens to be there when the school vanishes.
Akio and Yuka find themselves the support of the frightened children, and their relationship grows as they work together to make the best of a bad situation.

That's all I am saying story wise. Their romance is absolutely adorable. Akio is cool and reliable, but also sweet and adorable. Yuka is so strong in spirit. It's a great combination.

Overall, I give it a 9/10. But that is a personal score. You probably won't see it so high anywhere else. If I could find a copy, I would buy it, just so I can experience it again sometime. Not too soon. Whew, I am tired.

Drama Websites

The websites where I watch my dramas and the drama of watching them at these sites.

Dramafever.org - Heard about it on Dramabeans.com, a blog about Korean Dramas. I like this site for many reasons. The video quality is great. All the episodes are easily accessible. Lots of Dramas! I created an account there which is nice because then it remembers what episodes you've seen, and where you were in a specific episode. The only downside is commercials, but they are really, really short and spaced about 10 minutes apart.

Mysoju.com - Not just Korean Drama, but Japanese, Taiwanese, and Chinese as well. There is a huge variety of shows to choose from. However, the quality depends on where the video is coming from. Some series or episodes don't work. Still, great site for Drama.

viikii.net - Ummm... still tinkering with this one. Its very international with all kinds of drama and it is likely to have the first subs since the community voluntarily does it. Good quality and access to the next episode in a series. I don't like the traffic though. Really jams things up.

youtube.com - Last resort, but we all love this site. It reminds me of digging for buried treasure. Sometimes you find what you are looking for, sometimes you get something very close to what you were look for, sometimes you get nothing. I go to youtube when I know a series that I want to watch, but it isn't available on the other sites. Then I just cross my fingers that someone posted a subbed version.

(NEW)

iidrama.com

dramacrazy.net - This site is harder to navigate/browse then mysoju, and I blame it mostly on the lacking filter system.  I go here if I know the name of the show that I want, but can't find it working elsewhere.  However, once you've picked a show, this site is great.  It is easy to go on to the next part or next episode, there are sometimes reviews to help you decide if you really want to watch it, and there is usually a gallery of pictures.

I Really, Really Like You

I just barely finished this one, so I will have more things to say and in more detail. Will try not to be too spoilerish. As you can see, this was the drama with the most episodes, 34 to be exact, and when I started this blog I was only on episode 6. What does that say for this drama? I couldn't stop watching it.

What I liked:

There are so many characters! Sometimes thats a bad thing, but I found it to be fun. They were well spun together without losing the focus of the show.

The food! I would get so hungry watching this show! And it was all Korean food so educational yes.

The main heroine was so likable. You were rooting for her from episode one.

I officially mark this show for having my favorite kiss scene and mutual confession scene. So cute, even though the things I am refering to happened in the last two episodes. Guess there is something to be said about all that character and story development.

The talking Teddy Bear! AWESOME!

All the emotion! I was angry, sad, worried, excited, happy, proud, disappointed, etc. And that is just me personally. The characters displayed so much that I couldn't help reciprocating.

Nam Bong Gi chasing the chicken! Thats when I knew this show was something special.

Use of music. Similar songs tied together story lines and emotions. The background music was just well done in my opinion.

So, official rating... 8/10!

Boys Over Flowers

Summary:  Geum Jan Di is an ordinary, lower class girl whose family owns a dry cleaning store.
Because she prevented a suicide at the prestigious Shin Hwa High School, the school has to give her a scholarship to satisfy the media.  However she is quickly singled out by the leader of F4 (the four richest and most popular boys at the school) Gu Jun Pyo who leads the entire student body to terrorize her.  Jan Di continues to stand up to the bullying, and Jun Pyo finds himself attracted to her strong will despite himself.  Unfortunately for him, Jan Di has a crush on Yoon Ji Hoo, another member of F4 and Jun Pyo's best friend.

I would call this my first official K Drama. During a very very hard time in my life, I weaseled my way into hanging out with Janalyn and her friends Stacey and Kim while they were watching this. Of course that meant I started on episode 12, but I went back and watched those episodes while I was at my other sister, Ayla's house.

This is a great show and one I highly recommend as a starting place to anyone who is interested in Korean Dramas.  In fact, I have met so many other people who watch K Dramas because we bonded over this show

It is a fun to watch romance with lots of great characters and catchy music. Not to mention the hot guys. SWOON! I am so in love with Kim Bum who plays So Yi Jung and Kim Hyun Joong who plays Ji Hoo!  Also, Lee Min Ho is amazing, but I didn't fall for him until later.

 I give it 8/10!

Spoilers start here!

My one problem with this show was my own fault.  I just preferred the relationship between Jan Di and Ji Hoo better than Jan Di and Jun Pyo.  So, the ending wasn't satisfying to me.  I probably just need to watch it again.

The Beginning of my Asian Drama Craze

I am obsessed with Asian Dramas.  That is Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese, etc. TV live action dramas.  Here is the story on how this craziness started.

While at USU, one of Natasha's friends let her borrow a Taiwanese Drama she had bought on line.  It was based on a comic book Natasha was collecting called "The Devil Does Exist", but the drama was called "Devil Beside You".  I was having a bad weekend and needed some cheering up, so I had Tash buy me some Cherry Cordial Kisses, Oreos, and Cheetos (my junk food of choice) and while she was out for the night, I watched "Devil Beside You" on her computer.  The whole thing.  That's 20, 45 minute episodes.  Safe to say, I LOVED IT!

A while later, my older sister's friend Stacey was convincing Janalyn to watch a Korean Drama with her called "Boys Before Flowers", and I had read some of the comic it was based on.  Another weekend when I was feeling pretty miserable, I headed over to Janalyn's house and watched it with them.  That pretty much decided the thing.  I was hooked.  It also got me addicted to K Pop, but that is another discussion.

So, that is how it all started.  I will be posting a lot of reviews about these shows that I like, and I will rate them based on my own personal preference.
